If you itemize deductions, Goodwill has made it easy to keep track of any donations you make to them. Using their online format, you can enter items donated on their electronic “Donation Receipt Builder” which you can then print out to document your donation.
It seems to us that many clients underreport the value of this type of charitable donation. This is an excellent way to generate more accurate contribution totals, increase your deductions and save tax dollars!
After creating an online account, create a receipt for items you will donate from a drop-down menu pre-populated with a suggested fair market value for lightly used items in good condition (you may change the suggested price where appropriate). Take the printed receipt to the Donation Center with your donations, where it will be validated. If you make several donations during the year, you should be able to access all your receipts from their website at tax time.
