MJW EA & Company LLC provides year-round tax and bookkeeping services for both the individual and the small business. Our tax clients include the 1040 crowd (individuals), the 1065/1120 movers and shakers (small businesses), the 990 non-profitters and the 1041 club (trusts and estates).
Apart from our voluminous tax work, we also provide personal and business bookkeeping services (including bill paying, making deposits, handling client QuickBooks, making reconciliations), help in filling out the FAFSA, planning for retirement and advising on the best strategy for receiving your Social Security benefits. In other words, it’s the soup to nuts for all aspects of your tax life.
Ethics, integrity, care for the client’s needs and a passion for helping people is what has gone into the 30+ years of building this company. As a client, you can expect genuine interest in your situation, attention above and beyond what you might expect from a tax firm, a team who is on your side researching answers to the tough tax questions and zealous representation in front of the IRS (should the need arise).
While accounting was her beginning, Mary Jo, founder of MJW EA & Company LLC, soon discovered a love for taxes and in 1982 decided that becoming an Enrolled Agent would be the best path in order to provide the type of tax service she wanted to provide to our clients. Why an EA (Enrolled Agent) and not a CPA (Certified Public Accountant)? Basically:
- Only Enrolled Agents are required to demonstrate to the IRS their competence in all areas of taxation, representation and ethics before they are given unlimited representation rights before IRS. Unlike CPAs, who are state licensed and who may or may not choose to specialize in taxes, all Enrolled Agents specialize in taxation.
- EAs adhere to a stringent Code of Ethics and Rules of Professional Conduct, as well as the Treasury Department’s Circular 230 regulations and work to make the tax code fair and reasonably enforced.
Who else would you want handling your taxes?
Meet the Staff…

As head of this office, I have to understand accounting and tax standards, practices, rules and regulations. To that end, I have been an Enrolled Agent since 1989 and have been diligent in staying abreast of changes in the field. But in day to day practice, my focus goes beyond knowledge in my field.
In any conversation it is easy to hear what you want to hear or what you expect to hear. I have found that my primary job is to listen, both to clients and employees. When I do that well, the solutions we propose to client issues are tailored to the specific client. We want no “one size fits all” solutions coming out of this office. Each is specific to a particular situation; context is always relevant.
The work we do is detailed and serious, but it is also very human, rewarding, often fun and sometimes strange. Very few tax and accounting professionals have had the experience of taking an ill client’s birds to a bird rehab center in a small convertible (I like convertibles). The song “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” which might be my favorite song ever, reminds me that life is serious, strange, fun and always an adventure. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
My name is Tracey and I have been working at MJW EA & Company LLC as a Tax Professional/Office Manager since 2009. Prior to joining the team here, I moved around a lot and was able to gain experience in many different fields. I’ve been the assistant manager of a custom frame shop, a Property Manager for a real estate development company, a Marketing Associate for an advertising company and the Manager of Finance & Administration for a Venture Capital Firm. I am now studying to sit for the Enrolled Agent exam.
If I had to describe myself I would say that I am reliable, a self-starter and witty. My favorite song is “Don’t Worry Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin; I can be having the worst day ever and when I hear that song I just have to smile! The craziest thing I ever did was making the decision to run a marathon. I don’t even like to run, what was I thinking!
My name is Deb and I have been working at MJW EA & Company LLC since February 2012. What began as a part-time tax preparation position quickly transitioned into a full-time tax professional position and the beginning of a new career for me. My duties include personal and business tax preparation, bookkeeping and being the office’s QuickBooks “expert.” I passed the Enrolled Agent exam in 2015 and am now a licensed EA with a degree from CCSU in Accounting.
What I enjoy most about working here is having the opportunity to help people with their tax and business needs. Whether it’s telling a client about an available tax credit, relieving them of the stress of responding to a tax notice or simply being available to help them with their questions during the year, it’s a great feeling to know we are helping our clients with something that can be very stressful and confusing for them.
I am an avid reader and a fan of trivia.
At MJW EA & Company LLC, I perform the standard assortment of administrative tasks – directing phones, sorting mail, A/R, reaching out to clients and helping to answer questions when I can – along with a buffet of special projects as they come up. Though I went to school to be a professional writer, I have yet to publish the great American book of short stories. My professional history includes various office settings from P&C insurance to health service to non-profit. Outside of administrative positions, I’ve worked as a cook and most recently as a grower at a local garden center. I definitely don’t mind getting my hands dirty.
I would describe myself as curious, feisty and moral. I am an ardent Trekkie.
If asked, a desert island contender for songs on a mix tape would include “Rock the Casbah” by The Clash, and a desert island book would be The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams.
I have worked at MJW EA & Company LLC for five years as a bookkeeper. I’ve worked in a number of different fields and though the majority of my work has been in the bookkeeping arena, I have also been an office manager and an orthodontic assistant.
I would describe myself as relaxed and good-natured. I am an animal lover and am a proud parent of a brand new puppy, Francine, a Golden Retriever.
My favorite song is “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
I graduated from Quinnipiac University with an Accounting and Financial Management degree. I worked for 2 years as a staff accountant and left to start my own retail business. An invaluable experience to say the least, this venture allowed me to learn all of the nuts and bolts associated with being a business owner. I have been married for 23 years and have three children. While staying home for 18 years, I kept up with my bookkeeping skills by being the treasurer at the various Madison Public Schools and as being the property manager for family owned office buildings. In addition to being employed by MJW EA & Company LLC, I work for the Madison Chamber of Commerce as an executive assistant.
Three adjectives that I would use to describe myself are organized, loyal and unique.
I am an avid reader and have been in the same book club for over 10 years.
My name is Sue and I started at MJW EA & Company in February 2017. I graduated from University of Richmond with a BS in Business Administration and have worked in a host of jobs, including being an insurance claims adjuster and administrating a tax office. I am superbly at ease with such tasks as weekly payrolls, monthly financials and preparing tax returns.
I recently passed my Enrolled Agent exam and am now a licensed EA. My role at MJW EA & Company LLC includes tax preparation, tax planning and preparing financial reports.
I have three teenagers and thoroughly enjoy spending time with my family and attending their sporting events, especially basketball. I can be described as energetic, a go-getter and humorous. I love to play games and one of my favorite songs is “Born to Run” by Bruce Springsteen. Two of my most memorable yet odd experiences are driving across country after graduating from college and staying with relatives I didn’t even know along the way, and visiting 9 countries while backing packing across Europe with my 5 closest friends.
